A roaring crash jerked Dean back to consciousness. His eyes opened to a blue sky masked by black masses that raced passed him in a violent fury. His head ached and his ears were ringing. Dean wanted to close his eyes again, to return to the sleep and push this painful reality away, but the rumbling wouldn’t let him. The rumbling… it grew more powerful, shaking him and everything around him.

Dean flipped over onto his chest and pushed himself up. Half of the room was gone, its broken edge was just feet away from where he lay. Dean steadied himself with his hands and crawled to the edge, trying his best to combat the swaying tower.

He peaked his head over and tried to process what he was seeing. Far below him, a massive plume of dust and smoke was spreading across the landscape. The cloud tried to pile on top of itself, fighting its own weight to reach up to him, but it was a hopeless endeavor. It didn’t matter anyway, there was already plenty of smoke and dust funneling out past Dean where he was.

Dean pushed away from the crack and slowly climbed to his feet, trying his best to balance himself while he did. The building creaked and moaned around him, struggling to hold itself up. A nearby hallway glowed red from a blazing inferno hiding deep within. Stray flaps of paper and trash flew past him as they were sucked out into the open sky.

Dean only had one thought in his mind- he had to get out of that tower as quickly as possible. But a fuzzy entity in the rear of his consciousness gave him pause. What was he doing in this room? The memories flooded him like a freezing wave- the man was killing him.

Dean shot looks around the room, searching for Taron. He looked at every dark corner, at every large object he could be hiding behind. But he was nowhere to be found. Dean was completely alone, except for the three bodies of the people Taron murdered.

Dean used his palm to wipe away some debris that was stuck on his brow. It was an old receipt, sticky with blood. Dean wiped his brow again to clean it the best he could. He took a limping step forward, it was unsteady, but it would have to do.

Dean stumbled toward the nearest hallway- the one he backtracked through. It was dark and full of smoke. He thought about calling out to Blair or Elias, but with the thought of Taron, he decided against it. Dean pulled his shirt up to his mouth and plunged himself into the darkness. The urge to cough overwhelmed him. His eyes burned in pain. Heat completely surrounded him. After a moment, he swore he heard footsteps trailing behind him. Dean stopped and spun around, but there was nothing. The building swayed heavily, cracking and moaning in pain. Keep going, Dean told himself. But it took his body a moment to obey.
